Turtle cache is not only a traditional cache but also the start/finish line for the Great GeoCache Turtle Race! Multiple Racing Turtle Travel Bugs are being released to see which one can hit the most caches and log the most miles in a limited amount of time. Then, the TB's missions will change, and they will race back "home" to Turtle cache.
The container is a pickle relish jar hidden near a kid-friendly trail. Please protect the wee-ones with some repellent and keep them close at hand to watch where they step, as this is a quasi-wilderness area and there may be wildlife of all kinds, including the creepy crawly type. We saw a huge set of deer tracks in the trail on the way to the hidey-hole. If time allows, check out the park office. It's worth the visit.
Please note: Some wood rats make their homes in this area. You'll recognize their shelters as piles of twigs and brush about the size of pencils. You need not disturb any such pile to find this cache. Doing so may surprise both you and a furry friend. Please take care to leave the cache well hidden (as found).
