Onward to my eventual goal of a cache in every park in Mount Airy. After looking all over the park, I ended up settling on an area that is less than 20 feet from pavement.

Watkins Park was the location of the orgiingal Mount Airy cache and my replacement for it, Mount Airy II - Coins of the World. Both were eventually pilfered by muggles. Here is hoping that third time is the charm! The eldest CHARTLet and I started at the back of the park and discovered (OK, I'm sure that others knew about it) the new Elementary school being built in the park! Seeing as how muggles (most likely kids) took the last two caches in this park, we went as far away from the school as possible. That took us up by the playground area. There is a nice, very small wooded area between the school and the playground, but we explored it and it is heavily travelled / played in. We thought we had hit pay dirt between the playground and Center St, but upon entering that area we quickly spied the "Reforestation Area" signs. Sigh..... As the premiere park in Mount Airy, Watkins needs a cache, but this is getting rediculous! We went further away from the playground, almost up to Route 27, and there were some very nice hiding spots. Everyone driving into the park passes you, but there were no obvious kids playing nearby. We decided to give it a chance, but I feel that the cachers need some warnings.
1. THE CACHE IS NOT IN THE GUARD RAIL. ABOUT 5,000 YELLOW JACKETS AND THEIR NESTS ARE IN THE GUARD RAIL! STAY AWAY!!!
2. THERE ARE A LOT OF ANIMAL HOLES IN THE AREA, GROUNDHOGS I THINK. WATCH YOUR ANKLES!
3. THERE MAY BE OTHER BITING ANIMALS AS WELL. I DIDN'T SEE ANY, BUT WATCH WHERE YOU PUT YOUR HANDS WHILE SEARCHING!
4. DON'T PULL YOUR CARS OVER IN THE PARK DRIVEWAY AND BLOCK THE ENTRANCE WHEN YOUR GPSR SAYS YOU ARE RIGHT ON TOP OF THE CACHE!
I recommend that you park near the playground - 39° 22.526 North, 77° 08.977 West. The cache container is about a half-inch across and 1.5 inches long, so bring small stuff to trade. I started it off with about a half-dozen world coins (gasp, shock!!)Have Fun!!!
