Cluedo - The Reveal (Bucks)(Relocated) Mystery Cache

This cache has been archived.

Team Hippo: With regret I've decided that the work involved in getting this back in commission is just not justified in view of the tiny number of visitors it gets, and the fact that it seems cachers are just not interested in this type of cache any more - most people seem to be looking for quick and easy cache-and-dash type or 'numbers matter' power trails. Sad to see it go, as will its feeder caches in due course . . .

Geocache Description:

Loosely based on the popular Murder Mystery board game, this set of caches and companion Travel Bugs will help you determine who committed the dastardly deed, where, and with what. Visit the first three caches and gather the clues at each, OR intercept the three Travel Bugs, to lead you to the final cache and solve the murder mystery.

The series is set in the vicinity of large country houses, any of which might have been the venue for the crime. All the caches are on or adjacent to public rights of way.

The Reveal is set in the grounds of Waddesdon Manor, now administered by the National Trust.  Both the house and gardens are open to the public and both have admission charges. The cache is set on the estate outside the payable gardens, adjacent to a public footpath, and is therefore accessible at all times. This is a very pleasant area to walk in, and is pushbike and buggy friendly although the last couple of hundred yards can get a bit muddy.

The coordinates at the top of this page are the location of a device that will help you decode the information below. There is also ample on-street parking close by, from where it’s about a mile and a half walk to find the cache on mostly surfaced public rights of way. You can if you must drive a little closer, but please take great care not to disobey any of the estate signs. Dog owners please note that the NO DOGS signs apply to the payable grounds excepting the public footpaths, not the estate as a whole; but there may be livestock about, so please keep them under control. As you approach the cache you will have views of the house on its hilltop site.

Before you can visit this cache, you need to have found all three of the Who? What? Where? caches, or intercepted their equivalent Travel Bugs, and collected the clues from each.

Using these clues, complete the large grid below, in the following manner. For each character, weapon or location, fill in the component letters starting at the named square and working to the right. So for example, if the Reverend Green has A1 - C18 - D12 against his name, fill in the grid thus (ignoring any titles):

Carry on and do this for all the remaining characters, weapons and locations until this large grid is completely filled in.

Now to get on with the cache. In the top line of the grid below, 10 of the boxes have a letter and number code. Using this code refer to the large grid you completed above, and from the relevant squares copy the letter you wrote in that square to the second line of the grid below. If the square is blanked out, do the same.

You’re almost on your way! Now, using the device you will find at the given co-ords convert the letters in the second line of this grid to numbers, and put each resulting number into the square immediately below. If you have blanked out any of the squares, use zero in the bottom line.

When you visit the cache, don’t forget to take with you the large grid above on which you have filled in all the clues – you will need it! In the cache you will find the means to disclose the identity of the murderer and the What? and the Where? Please do not include these details in any logs (even if encrypted).

To claim the cache properly, you will have to email these details (Who?, What? and Where?) to the owner, as well as logging your find on the web site. Any logs that aren’t backed up by an email may be deleted.

When placed, the cache contained the usual log book and stash note, the means to solve the crime, a certificate for the First to Find and some trade goods.

Happy Sleuthing!
