Geocache Description:

A trip to one of the lesser travelled Derbyshire edges

This is a short multi-cache. The published co-ordinates will take you to somewhere where you'll have to do a simple calculation to find the real cache.Park at Curbar Gap car park (N53 16.124 W1 36.488). This is a pay & display car park and can get very busy. If you're lucky you may be able to park at the pull-in a couple of hundred yards down the road towards Curbar (N53 16.164 W1 36.789). This is free but usually full, especially weekends and holidays. (You have been warned). From the pull-in walk back up the hill to the Curbar Gap car park.Standing at the entrance to the car park with your back to the road, there is a gate on your right. Enter this and follow the well-defined track onto White Edge. (When you get to the end of the wall on your left, the track forks. Take the less defined right hand fork or you'll end up going in circles!). In any case the way onto the edge is clear.Follow the GPSr until you reach something white on White Edge. It'll be obvious when you see it. There are some great views from here.On the white thing look for a number made up of 4 digits. Let's call this number A.Now for the calculation: The cache is at N53 16.xxx W001 36.yyyWhere xxx is A minus 1376 and yyy is A minus 1837Allow about 45 minutes round trip to do just the cache. If you've 2 or 3 hours to spare why not carry on walking to the northern end of White Edge and return to the car park via Froggatt & Curbar Edges. A not too strenuous but rewarding walk. There are other caches on Froggatt Edge. There are also several small stone circles in this area. One on White Edge, one on Froggatt Edge and at least two in Barbrook Valley just to the east of White Edge. There are also the remains of neolithic and Iron Age settlements scattered all around this area. If you're interested explore the end of White Edge nearest to Curbar Gap car park (marked as Swine Sty on the OS OL24 map), look out for the rock carvings.Have fun!
