Geocache Description:

Chicago Geocaching

Pursuit of this micro will lead cachers to a property that played an important role in the lives of the early movers and shakers in this section of the northwest suburbs.

The historic church on the north, just beyond the cemetery, was built by the congregation, who used horse-drawn wagons to haul the clay bricks from Dundee. Back then, the cost of materials for the church totaled $10,000. It was completed and dedicated in 1863, and has been designated as a state historical landmark. The members of the congregation had built it to replace a small wooden church (only 24' x 30') that they had constructed in 1846. As the community grew, so too did the needs of St Peter. The current church and school are on the southwest side of the drive.

The caching mission will require a visit to the cemetery … if you’ve lived in, traveled through, or cached around this area long enough, many of the names on the headstones will seem familiar. Perhaps you will recall having seen Nerge or Springensguth other than in this cemetery.

Please respect those who lie here … you need not disturb any graves to find this micro.

Lots of free public parking here. Please BYOP (bring your own pen or pencil) – cache contains only a logsheet for you to sign.
