San Francisco has its share of little-known mini-neighborhoods: St. Mary's Park, Midtown Terrace, Dogpatch, and many more. How many of you know Little Hollywood? It's hidden away in the far southeast corner of the city, sandwiched between the Caltrain tracks and 101, not far from Candlestick. This cache would make a nice pre or post 49ers game outing.
This small plastic box contains just a few trade items, but all are FTF quality, including a carabiner/watch/compass, a small wooden picture frame, and Japanese samurai drink coasters. Please leave the disposable camera for everyone's Little Hollywood glamour shots.
San Francisco historians tell us Little Hollywood got its name from the numerous movie stars who had homes here back in the 1930s. Now it's an average-looking few blocks with several interesting older homes and a cozy neighborhood playground.
Recently developers have tried to bring "big box" stores like Home Depot into the area. Neighborhood groups have opposed these plans, claiming that the jobs would go to non-residents and the money would not stay in the neighborhood. Locals say they would prefer a supermarket (there are none nearby) or a community center.
Protests also have erupted over Norcal Waste's plans to build a large chemical waste incineration facility only a few hundred feet from the playground. In a conciliatory move, Norcal invited local artists to create a sculpture garden inside its facility. This outdoor art exhibit is only open to the public on the third Saturday of every month. However, some of the sculptures are visible from the upper level of the playground.
By the way, there is already a cache called "Little Hollywood" in Vienna, Austria... so I added "USA"
