Geocache Description:

This cache is located in the National Forest area that was burned by the Grand Prix fire in Oct. 2003. Altitude 4052'

Update 3/25/07 I finally went to the cache to replace the container and the wet log book. Since there is so much vegetation that has regrown since the cache was originally placed I couldn't find the original cache in spite of looking for 25 minutes. I went ahead and left the new cache container about 2' off the ground in the crotch of a small tree. The container is a camoed 1/2 gal mayo jar. If you happen to find the original 1 qt. paint can could you please retrieve it and discard it and notify me. The road is still rough in places but not as bad as it was. There are washboard sections and smooth sections. Just take it easy and you should be fine.

This cache is a resurrection of a cache that was here but got burned up in the fire. I picked up the debris from the original cache last November. It's only about 475' from the trail head to the cache but the road getting to the trail head will beat the livin' daylights out of you. I think you could do it in the old family sedan but you best take it slow and easy. A vehicle with more ground clearance would be better. 4x4 isn't really necessary but pay attention when you're going through a couple of the sandy areas. They're only about 6 feet long but if you don't have enough speed you could get stuck. It's 2.92 miles from Lytle Creek Road to the trail head. The first .5 miles is paved then it's rough for .5 miles then it's smooth for .25 miles, then rough, then smooth, rough, smooth, rough, smooth. Well, you get the picture. On your journey you will pass a house on the hill that was burned in the fire. You will also see evidence of the Christmas day mudslides. We had 8" of rain in two hours. The erosion cuts are fairly impressive. Finally you will arrive at the trail head. Be sure to display your Forest Adventure parking pass when you park. The cache is a 1 Qt. paint can cammo'ed to blend into the burned environment that is now starting to green up. Be sure to bring something with which to open the can.The can originally contained:Geocaching Disclaimer formLog Book and penFM radio6 Velcro wrapsFuzzy stuffed beeKeychain flashlight.
