Toad's Up Traditional Cache
Scoobert: Doesn’t sound like this amazing spot is going to waste and I’ll no longer be on the hook for maintenance…sounds like a win-win to me 😎 Thanks to all who have ventured up here over the past 21 years. You get to do it again.

Cache is along the Tahoe Rim Trail and provides excellent views of Lake Tahoe and Hell Hole Valley below.
Best starting point is from Highway 89 just west of Grass Lake. From there it’s only a 5+ mile hike or ride (one way) and a 1900 foot ascent. I was persuaded to take this out and back route that was “200 feet up and less than 0.5 mile” from the point that the Tahoe Rim Trail and Saxon Creek Trail (AKA Mr. Toads Wild Ride) meet. It ended up being a 2 mile and almost 600 foot ascent from there. Once I got there it was worth being persuaded. You’ll see when you get there. You can also access this cache from the bottom of the Saxon Creek Trail or starting on the Tahoe Rim Trail off of Kingsbury grade. Both will require much more distance and elevation gain.Cache is in a 4x4x6 plastic container with a granite camo. It is hidden well to protect it from the brutal winter weather and any muggles. However my intent was not for you to not find the cache so you may want to print some of the pictures to take with you to assist in finding it. It is out on an isolated cairn placed underneath some rocks. Be careful, some of the rocks may not be stable so don’t go all the way to the tip of the cairn. It’s a long way down!
