Geologeocache - Leave A Cool Rock, Take A Cool Rock.
The point of this cache is to see and learn some very
interesting Colorado geology. Bring a cool rock from home to
exchange (please don’t pick one up from nearby).
Beautiful views of Denver. Parking is 1 minute from Interstate
70 - a great cache to find on your way out of town. Total time less
than 20 minutes, entirely paved surface. Almost all of this cache
is wheelchair accessible.

PARK
...in the parking lot at approximately:
N 39 42.083’
W 105 12.221’
TRAILHEAD
Walk East on the path found at:
N 39 42.095’
W 105 12.188’
READ and LEARN
...as you go. Pay attention!
WALK
...a while. In fact, walk “approximately 95 to 135 million
years”
(You DON'T need to do any calculations for this, although there
is a sign that tells you how!)
WHEN YOU GET THERE
...find the last four digits.
Sum each digit individually, reverse the result, divide by 1000,
and then SUBTRACT that number from your current Longitude (in
decimal). This is your FINAL longitude!
i.e. if the last four digits are 6769
and your current latitude is:
W 105 55.379’, then:
Sum 6+7+6+9 = 28
Reverse = 82
Divide by 1000 = 0.082
Subtract: W105 55.395 - 0.082
Equals W 105 55.313’
This is your FINAL longitude
CONTINUE WALKING EAST
...be sure to smell the smelly smell at:
N 39 42.211’
W 105 12.108’
FINAL CACHE LOCATION!
N 39 42.253’
W 105 12.xxx’
Where the xxx is your FINAL longitude from step above!

Some Tips for this Cache:
DO NOT cross the fence at the end of the path. It is chain link,
waist high, and slightly buried. The terrain becomes VERY steep
beyond the fence.
DO NOT leave the self-guided tour area
This is approximately a 20 minute, paved, walk. You can wear any
shoes. If it has been raining, there may be some mud on the paved
path.
This cache will probably the Loudest cache that you ever
experience.
Remember to bring a small bag so that you can carry out any
trash that you find. Cache In - Trash Out
This cache is a small Tupperware-type container, as big as two
adult fists. Please leave a cool rock, and take a cool rock. If a
professional geologist stops by, I would love some opinions about
the rocks in the Geologeocache!
The cache started with:
- a flat red slab of a rock with an interesting crystal-like
strip
- a small piece of spherical geode with a few white crystals
- a heavy, brown, crusted rock with a hole! (may be very old
iron)
- a beautiful blue, store purchased, polished rock
- a big piece of iron pyrite (fools gold) with an attached eagle
(!)
- a sparkly white (quartz?) rock with some other gold sparklies
(pyrite?)
- a translucent red rock (also maybe quartz?).
- a bigger piece of the sparkly white quartz, with some crystalline
inclusions
-a smaller piece of iron pyrite, without an eagle attached!
- a flat piece of rock (granite?) about the size of a nickel. VERY
sparkly w/ mica
