Geocache Description:

Easy approach for all ages.

Lono’s light is the literal translation for Kukuiolono, the site said to have been used for signal fires for seafarers.

This beautiful park was once owned by a sugar baron, who, in 1919, graciously donated his private golf course and surrounding lands to the people of Kauai. Now it is a public park.

To get here, turn makai from Kaumuali’i Hwy onto Papalina Road in Kalaheo, drive for a mile and turn into Kukuiolono Park on your right through an iron gate between lava rock pillars. When you exit the tree alley, park ahead at N21-54.858 W159-31.598.

Visit the old Japanese garden off to the side and also view, respectfully, some Hawaiian artifacts in the remains of an ancient heiau.

Before you leave the park, drive to the golf club house parking lot and take in the awesome ocean view and, on a clear day, a view of the entire “forbidden” island of Ni’ihau.
