Geocache Description:

This multi-cache will take you though the woods on a well marked path. All of the caches are within 2-3 metres of the path and will involve minimal scrambling or climbing. The paths can be muddy in wet weather and you will have to climb over a stile at some point on your search.

Badby Wood is ancient woodland – it has been growing here for over 700 years. It was designated as a Site of Special Scientific Interest in 1985. It mainly consists of native hazel and oak trees with ash in wetter areas as well as a mixture of birch, elder, honeysuckle, holly and rowan. Within the wood there are bracken glades, ancient earthworks and a stream. Bluebells carpet the woodland floor in May and June.

The first three caches are colour coded balls. You will have to use the key below to gain the number for the final code (e.g. if a brown ball is found at cache C, C=8) . they are each secured in place with a chain, so should be easy(!) to find them. The final cache is a green ammo box.

The above co-ordinates are for the car park. From here you will see a path toward the forest and the first cache.

Ball Key:

ORANGE=1    RED=2    PINK=3    YELLOW=4    GREEN=5    BLACK=6    WHITE=7    BROWN=8    BLUE=9

Your journey takes you through where Flanagan & Allen ‘dreamed their dreams away'...now make your way to cache A

Cache A is at N 52 13.292 W001 10.260. You’ll find it in the remains of an old tree stump. You should be able to see a capital ‘K’ with a heart around it on a tree nearby.

Record the clue here: A=.................................................

Cache B is at N 52 13.242 W001 10.185. You’ll find it in a tree stump which looks like it has ears!

Record the clue here: B=.................................................

Cache C is at N 52 13.151 W001 10.048. You’ll find this one in a decaying tree stump on the other side of the path to a fallen tree.

Record the clue here: C=.................................................

Now you have to do a bit of maths to get the final co-ordinates!!

N 52 (A+B).98(B-C)
W00(C-A) 0B.9A(A-1)

From the cache site you can see the remains of the Dower House. The Dower House has been unoccupied since 1702 when the last occupant, Annie Knightly died. The house, now a ruin is a popular resting point for walkers exploring Badby Woods. However be careful, the site is said to be haunted by a mysterious and sinister huntsman!

There is also another story about the woods but I have left the details of this in the final cache as well as some other goodies!

Please leave the laminated card in the box so that other ghost-hunters will have a chance at finding out 'The Mystery of Badby Woods'!!!!

Tip - Place the box up-side-down to get it the right-way-up...you'll see what I mean

Hope that you enjoy this cache!
