This cache is a tribute to the great novelist and historian, Dee Brown, who was born in Louisiana in 1908, but grew up in Ouachita County, Arkansas and Little Rock, Arkansas. After he retired from the University of Illinois in 1973, he returned to Little Rock, where he lived until his death on December 12, 2002. His most famous work is "Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee", a work detailing the violent relationship between Native Americans and American expansionism. Another work of his that I have enjoyed is "Hear That Lonesome Whistle Blow", which is a history of the building of the transcontinental railroads. Hence, the name of this cache!
The cache is a micro, hidden near the recently renovated train depot in downtown Russellville. CAUTION: The railroad tracks next to the depot are active and several trains pass by daily. You do NOT need to approach the tracks to find this cache, even if your GPS unit tells you that it’s over there!
A big “Thank You” goes to the Director of Main Street Russellville, for suggesting and approving the hiding spot for the cache.
CAUTION: BEWARE THE "MAN ACROSS THE STREET"! He is a liar and has misled several cachers into thinking the cache wasn't there!
First to Find Honors: Captain Atom, 9/7/04
