Desert Storm Training Base Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Boris and Natasha: The geocaching model has changed to one of numbers and competition versus outdoor discovery and fun. Too many people are "finding" caches and "discovering" trackables without visiting a cache. I no longer wish to contribute to a "sport" that people are now doing at home on their computers rather than out in nature. I will not give them one more opportunity to add a notch to their competitive belt.

Geocache Description:

Welcome to the USAF bombing and gunnery range, almost. The cache is just outside the fence of this interesting area. On a typical weekday you might be able to see war planes overhead making their bombing runs at the Indian Springs bombing range just to the North.

Several times each year the military puts on a "fire power" demonstration at the Indian Springs bombing area. They drop different types of bombs from several different types of aircraft, including B-1, B-2 and B-52 bombers and A-10, F-16 and F-15 fighter aircraft. They also have dropped bombs from F-117 and F-22 Stealth jets. It's a pretty awesome demonstration. It's open to the public, but the Air Force doesn't announce it, so very few people get to see it unless they are in the know.

Of course, Nellis is the base for the famous Red Flag "topgun" month-long exercise. When that is going on (twice a year) the sky is filled with a variety of aircraft. And, if you go several miles northeast of here you might be able to see some alien aircraft from Area 51.

The cache is a small tin that is larger than a micro, but smaller than an ammo can. When hidden it contained our usual assortment of buttons.
