Geocache Description:

A puzzle involving interpretation of aerial photography

Finding the location of the "snake eyes" in the aerial photograph below is the key to solving this geocache puzzle. There is a small green building immediately to the west of the two round objects (snake eyes). About 150 feet from this building, bearing 248 degrees, is a small dowel in a treehole upon which are written the coordinates of the actual cache. The final cache is about 0.6 miles from the "snake eyes." and can be reached by walking or a combination drive/walk. Once you have the coordinates, the cache itself will be an easy find.

The coordinates above are not for the cache itself. Instead, they are for a prominent Grand Traverse Bay area landmark which is located 7.87 miles (as the crow flies) from the "snake eyes." This aerial photograph is from TerraServer which provides aerial images of the continental United States. Use TerraServer and comparison with appropriate maps and/or your innate knowledge of the area to solve this puzzle. The "prominent landmark" is visible from the vicinity of the cache site on a clear day.

This geocache was inspired by GCGPYX and others like it.

Satellites have many purposes in addition to providing navigation, the function we utilize in geocaching. If it is a clear sunny day when you find this cache, look up into the sky and smile -- you may be on candid camera!
