Geocache Description:

This cache was placed on Lulubell's B-Day for her. It is set up as a magnet and keychain swap shop, but not limited to anything in particular.

Little Current is the gateway to Manitoulin Island. First settled in the late 1860s, Little Current soon grew into a major Great Lakes port. Today, most visitors cross the town's most famous landmark: the swing bridge. Originally a railway bridge, the swing bridge was built in 1913 to link Little Current with the rest of northern Ontario.

Originally the bridge stayed open, swinging closed only when a train neared the Little Current station, so that the busy shipping lanes through the North Channel could remain open. After the Second World War, the bridge was modified for vehicles and, during the 1980s, rail traffic ceased entirely. Now the bridge stays in the closed position, except for about 15 minutes on the hour in daylight during the summer, to let boats pass through the channel.

The park land beside the Manitoulin Information Centre, adjacent to the bridge, provides an excellent vantage point from which to watch and photograph the bridge swing and the passage of the yachts through the narrowest part of the North Channel.

Old co-ordinates N 45deg58.756 W081deg54.988, was forced to move April 17, 2005 due to muggles everywhere on this trail, I relocated only to try to preserve this cache.

This is located near an ice cream store so bring money if you bring the kids. Park @ N45deg 58.724 W081deg 55.042. Original contents are stuff we picked up along the caching trail, a logbook and a lot of pens and pencils from various companies. And a T.B. from Germany which I picked up. I will post a picture with it soon. Enjoy this simple cache and respect the area.
