The Rockhound Special Traditional Cache
olddad: Thanks to all who enjoyed this cache. For several years it was a source of enjoyment for my Dad and the other seniors living at Edgewood Vista in Spearfish, SD. The cache was just outside the assisted living facility and the residents really enjoyed watching the geocachers. Unfortunately the "muggles" started raiding the cache and the elderly gentleman who looked after it was no longer able to keep it up. My apologies to those of you who have been disappointed.

THE ROCKHOUND SPECIAL This cache will hold special appeal for anyone interested in Geology. It is located in the city of Spearfish on the northern edge of the Black Hills. Look for a green ammo box.....and: Think rocks! The Black Hills region is possibly the most diverse geological area in the world; rocks found here span the geological time range across the Cenozoic, Mesozoic, and Paleozoic eras. The Black Hills is home of the Homestake Gold Mine, is near to the fossil rich Badlands, and is a great place in general if you’re a rockhound. When you open our cache named the Rockhound Special, you’ll find a variety of stones, many of them with labels and accompanying descriptions. The stones are from a variety of locations, some from South Dakota, others from elsewhere. You’re invited to take a stone and encouraged to replace it with one of your own.
