The Travel Bug Dungeon Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

bennet: Now permanently disabled.
I'm archiving the dungeon.
Travel bugs and trade items will continue to be logged into and out of the dungeon annex, which is not located at the posted coordinates. The annex has been active for a while, and its purpose has been to make large trades, and allow bugs to get the mileage goals, state goals, cache log history, etc.
The annex will continue to function for as long as it will.

Geocache Description:

This cache was designed to be a convenient place to trade Travel Bugs, Geocoins, Traveler Tags, Where's Georges, and other trading items intended to be moved and tracked.
This cache was made to be found. It is easy to get to and easy to find.
It is located with easy access (less than half a minute) from Interstate 20 and Highway 377 in south Fort Worth. It is also within five minutes of Highway 183, and within ten minutes of Interstate 30.

Throw that bug in the hole!

Welcome to the Travel Bug Dungeon. I know, I know. The word "dungeon" has some negative connotation. Things like torture, rats, pain and suffering, mildew, what have you.

But dungeons get a bad rap. As I recall, back in the day, life in the dungeon was not all that bad. You never had to worry about wearing greasy sunscreen. There were no traffic jams down there. No monthly bills. Some of the rats made nice pets. Gaining weight was not a problem. Plus, you gained some serious introspection. All in all, the old dungeon was a pretty happening place.

During their stay in the dungeon, your bugs will not be tortured. While in the dungeon, during hot weather, your bugs will enjoy the benefit of the slightly cooler cave-like atmosphere, as bugs elsewhere swelter in hot metal boxes under the sun. During cold weather, your bugs will enjoy the benefit of slightly warmer temperatures, brought on by the insulating effect of the surrounding earth, while bugs elsewhere rattle frozen against frigid tupperware.

Besides, a bug’s stay in the dungeon is likely to be short-term. It is not a prison term. It is not a punishment. It is an "experience".

Your bug will never be the same.

There are some rules for this cache that I would like everyone to follow. They are listed below. Sorry for the rules. But if these rules are broken and the cache cannot remain populated with bugs, then the cache will not meet its intent. Then, too many times, people will visit the cache to trade, and will find it empty. If this cache turns into that, I will end up shutting it down.

Rules:

1. Please trade evenly. That is, if you take a bug, leave a bug. If you take two bugs, leave two bugs. If you take seven four bugs, leave seven four bugs.

2. There are exceptions. For example, if a bug’s goal is to travel to Mount Everest, and you will be starting an expedition to the summit of Mount Everest in a couple of days, then you can take the bug without trade. However, it would be better if you could take a little time away from preparing for your Everest trip, and go find a bug somewhere else first. Then, come to this cache to trade for the Everest bug.

3. When you come to this cache, just make sure you bring a bug with you. If you don't have any, then just go find some first. They are not that hard to find.

4. If you wish to leave more bugs than you take, that is certainly a good thing. That helps the population and intent of the cache.

5. It is desirable to keep the contents limited to items that it is designed for, that is, Travel Bugs, Geocoins, Traveler Tags, Where’s Georges, and other trading items designed to be moved and tracked. Signature items are okay. But filling the cache with other standard swag (McDonalds toys, Play-Doh, etc.) leaves less room for bugs.

6. Special rule added 17 March 2005: Please do not leave travel bugs and travel bug clones associated with the WMD game in the dungeon. They can confuse the inventory of the dungeon. These TBs and TB clones have names that start with "CDR" or "Lt. Col.". Thanks!

7. As of 31 July 2005, dungeon (cache) occupancy will be kept at or below four bugs.

Enjoy the dungeon!
