An easily accessible site with historical significance.
This is a pleasant and interesting spot to visit if you are travelling in the Algonquin Park / Barry's Bay area. The cache is in cottage country. It includes a brief history of the immediate area and lists a few points of interest. There is a public beach within 2 km of the site.The site is off the Old Barry's Bay Road which runs between a point on Hw 60 just east of Barry's Bay and Hw 62 just north of Combermere. It is about mid-way between Combermere and Barry's Bay. Turn off the Old BB Road at the roadside chapel.There is convenient parking within 50 m of the cache.
Unfortunately someone has again removed the container - The site is worth visiting and you can record your visit here even though the container is gone. I get to the site only once per year so the next time I get back I'll look for a new location in the vicinity.
The surroundings have changed appreciably since the cache was installed. Deep beds of pine needles have formed up-hill from each tree. Look for a few very young birches and maples at the top of the bank.The cache contained: a keychain, notebook, a brief history of the area pen and pencil. You will likely lose the satellite signal about 20 m from the cache because of the tree cover. Replace the container securely so it does not get washed away in the rain.
The cache had been dispersed but has now been replaced (Aug. 2013).
