Geocache Description:

Nelsonville Brick Park.Parking is within 200 feet of the cache. No Bushwacking Required!

The brick kilns are some of the last vestiges of the once thriving brick industry of Athens County. These Kilns produced some of the first bricks used to pave roads in the state. No bricks were moved or needs to be moved to find this cache. There is no need to go inside the kilns to find this cache. Bring a sack lunch to enjoy at the picnic table. Cache is a *magnetic* key holder in camo tape. Bring a pen.

I've learned a little more about a "Bee-hive" Kilns in the past week. It takes about four days for the bricks in a kiln of this style to be fired. The temperature inside will vary depending on the location within the kiln and cause the bricks to be a slightly different shade of color.
Today there are not many active kilns of this style in operation. One that is, is here in Ohio, and is located in Sugarcreek (off route 39 near Dover). The bricks are hand stacked and unloaded every day!
