Geocache Description:

Located in downtown Fairbanks, AK, where the answer to the riddle "What's Black & White & Red All Over" may be found.

Note added 7/26/2012: To complete this webcam, you must capture a photo from the web of you and your group at the site using your smart phone or with the help of a cacher at another location and upload the photo with your log. Only the cacher(s) at the site may log the find. The remote picture taker may not log the find (afterall, that person wasn't actually at the coordinates). Also, just taking a photo of yourself at ground zero with a regular camera doesn't count, either, because this is a webcam cache, not a virtual or other type of cache. See the Groundspeak Help Center for more information.

This webcam is conveniently located close to the Fairbanks Convention and Visitors Bureau's Log Cabin Visitor Center and the Alaska Railroad Passenger Depot for trains to and from Denali National Park and Anchorage.  Stop by the webcam's location anytime to pick up a free Fairbanks Visitors Guide and purchase newspapers with the latest scoop on what's happening in the Alaskan interior.

Be sure to stop by Immaculate Conception Catholic Church established in 1904 and Sampson Hardware, serving Fairbanks from the same location since 1904, while in the vicinity.  The hardware store and Greek and Mexican restaurants are threatened with demolition in 2007 to make way for a new road plan for access to downtown from the north side of the Chena River.

To properly log this cache, you will need a cell phone and a partner sitting at a computer with Internet access.  (in lieu of a cell phone, your partner needs to know to watch for you at a given time.)  The person at the computer should practice their job ahead of time to make sure that the hunter is not standing outside indefinitely in winter's subzero temperatures or summer's forest fire smoke and mosquitoes.  This webcam captures images under all lighting conditions.

Photographer's Job
Go to the Webcam web site (http://www.newsminer.com/arctic_cam/) and look for your partner. This camera takes several pictures per minute.  Note that there is a several minute delay between when the image is taken and when it appears on the website and that the clock is not daylight savings time adjusted. You will need to refresh your screen to see the next picture. When you receive the phone call from the hunter and see him/her in the photo (see Cache Finder's Job below), save the picture by right-clicking on the webcam picture, click "Save Image As," and save the file to your computer's hard drive for later posting to the cache website.

Cache Finder's Job
When you get to the cache location, contact your photographer on the phone and assume your choice of poses (stand on guardrail, hold umbrella over your head, or open and hold up the Visitor's Guide) to differentiate yourself from other passersby.  Post your photo on the cache site and e-mail the Ladybug Kids with the answer to the riddle, "What's Black & White & Red All Over?" Then, proceed to enjoy your stay in where my family calls home, The Golden Heart City.

Standing on the guard rail helps you stand out the best...

...but, if it's raining, you may want to stay on the ground and hold an umbrella...and if it's dry, you could read the Visitors' Guide.  However, extra credit will be given to those who come up with creative ideas to make themselves stand out from the crowd.
