60 Degrees Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Enspyer: Hello all!
I went out and snatched up this cache today. I am leaving for college and I am not exactly sure if it is legal for it to be there, so I didn't want to pass the problem onto anyone else. I was extremely surprised the cache lasted there that long anyway! It was totally out in the open. it was completely visible from the towpath.

I took a lot of pictures of the area while waiting for the
muggles to move on, and later I'll take out the cache and photograph that as well. I'll be sure to upload those pics later.

thank you SO MUCH to anyone who ever found this cache. it's so cool to go back to the area after so long and see my handwriting on this little brown container. just amazing. all the things I've done since September 2004, when I went out to hide this cache. that was right at the beginning of my freshman year of HS, and now I'm leaving in a few days for my freshman year of college.

PS. if there is anyone who is interested in adopting my geocache Teasers Together (GCJ7DT), please send me an email! I'm interested in having it adopted because it will be my last original cache active in the area.

Geocache Description:

This is another cache hidden along the Erie Canal Towpath in Dewitt.

This cache can join the group of caches between Ryder Park and Green Lakes State Park that make a great bike ride. Now there's 5 caches!

The cache's name: It doesn't have anything to do with degrees on your GPSr, it's degrees on your thermometer! When we got out of the car, the thermometer read 60°F. Granted, car thermometers aren't all that accurate, but it certainly isn't summery weather. 60 degrees is a great caching temperature because it's comfortable to wear long pants and the bugs aren't out, but the ground isn't covered in snow.

The cache's location: This cache is very close to the Erie Canal. However, it can easily be accessed without you, your GPSr, or the cache falling in the canal! Please be careful and keep that BIG hint in mind! Also, be sure to rehide the cache just as you found it.

The container: The container is an old Disney-brand thermos that would fit in a lunchbox. There are a few small trade items, but there's not room for much. The best items would probably be the size of a quarter. Travel bugs will probably not fit. When you're done, be sure to screw the lid on all the way- it turns quite a few times. We want to keep this thing waterproof!

Parking: Parking can be found at Burdick Street near the intersection with Cedar Bay road. If you are biking you can park at Dewitt Town Hall or in a gravel parking nearer to the path.

Good luck! I hope you enjoy the cache, whatever the temperature!
