Near the (fairly) new made village of Wyton on the Hill
** Note : Due to the many DNF's at first try - the actual co-ords ARE NOT at the top of the page but listed in the text below **
RAF WYTON was foremost a pathfinder airfield during the 2nd world war and was also home to canberras in recent years one of which still stands by the gates of the camp not a million miles from the cache site
The runways are still used by the Cambridge University Air Squadron especially at weekends, and the Cambridgeshire Police Helicopter. Both can be seen clearly from the cache.
The cache starts by (nearest parking) one of the old airfield crash gates, via the posted co-ordinates (footpath) at the top of the page.
Looks like the land owners have put up "Kissing Gates" at both ends of the track so out of the question getting a wheelchair in there, bikes & buggies may have some difficulty also.
Do not attempt to short cut by crossing the fields, there is usually crops of some description during most of the year.
After picking up the co-ords to the final cache, follow the footpath between the fields, exit on the main road and stick to the foot/cycle path until safe to cross!
This cache is split in two parts - Part 1 a Micro Cache - A Bison Type Tube.
Part 2 a Regular Cache (L&L tub) - to get to part 2 you need to find part 1 first - both are about a mile (by foot - as the crow flies!) apart. Waypoints below show the actual co-ords for Parking and Part 1 (There is no LEGAL parking at the main cachesite)
When you are finished why not pop in to the nearby village of HOUGHTON more to see down there or follow the roads back to the car. Round Trip approx 4 miles - Ideal for a Sunday afternoon.
Contents at time of placing lots of small bits, a logbook and pencil.
