Ahoy, Maties! Do you like the ocean but you just can’t get there
today? Then this cache is for you! We’ll have you traversing over
woodsy dunes, walking the plank (watch for croaking sea monsters),
and roaming a rocky ridge (a safe one!). On some days you'll see an
ocean-blue sky, billowing foamy white clouds, and even sun-bunnies
(the furry kind with longish ears). We'll even provide the shells
so you can hear the whisper of the surf!
This cache is full of ocean treasures, and is a short 10 minute
hike from the road. Feel free to leave an ocean/water-themed
trinket if you have one, but this is one cache where you can take a
goodie without having to leave one if you can't find a ocean-ish
toy. Just email us when the container looks low on supplies and
we’ll happily replenish.
We've stocked the cache chock-full of ocean-related goodies.
Feel free to leave little pirates, shells, dolphins, sharks,
"Finding Nemo" or "Little Mermaid" or "Spongebob" items, ships or
boats, sand dollars, fishing lures (no hooks!), treasure chests,
old sunglasses, toy fish or any other clever ocean ideas that come
to mind! Travel bugs of *ANY* ole’ theme invited (Travel Bugs need
not fit the theme of this cache), as long as they fit in the 2-3/4
quart container that is already pretty full of stuff.
PARKING:
N 42º 01.561
W 072º02.710
(or Mapquest 915 Brickyard Road, Woodstock, CT)
Park in front of wooden shed by the road during the week. On
weekends or during the summer months, you can park in the dirt bus
turn-around just North of the shed. Do NOT park in the bus
turn-around during school days, please (unless it is after 5:00
pm).
Enter woods at opening, and descend into woods slowly. Take
*immediate* right at bottom of hill before the docked ships to
stay on geocaching-accessible property. If the main trail forks
(and it does twice if you have sharp eyes), always bear to the
right when heading toward the cache.
NOTICE: This private property is gladly open to
Geocachers from 9:00 a.m. to dusk. Dogs are welcome only if leashed
during the walk. This is hilly terrain, so wear rugged shoes.
During slippery or icy weather, the initial hill down into the
woods becomes treacherous. For your safety, this cache may be
temporarily archived during slick weather.
This property is NOT open to hunters, but you know, sometimes
they can wander. Be aware of Connecticut's big
game, small
game, and turkey
hunting seasons. We suggest you wear bright orange swim trunks
and make lots of annoying beach noise to scatter all the deer and
frustrate any possible trespassing hunters. Sunday is always a
safe, no-hunting day, as hunting on Sundays is prohibited by law in
Connecticut (even during hunting season). Coming on Sunday also
makes it easy for you to use the bus turn-around for parking your
car.
Extra credit is given to bathing-suit wearring cachers, but no
life guards are on duty. No surfboards are allowed on this private
beach, as waves are shallow and ... well, calm. If you smell low
tide....well, blame the person walking in front of you.
At first, when entering, it may look like you're walking between
2 yards as you head to the woods, but you'll actally be walking on
a 50 foot right-of-way between them, and you'll see the logging on
the way in where a dirt road will eventually be created. The owners
of the beige house are geocachers and will be thrilled to
see you use the land.
