Geocache Description:

There is an instruction book that can prepare you for places like this...

“INDIANA SPIRIT QUEST”

The Indiana Spirit Quest series of geocaches will take you to a number of small, rural, historic cemeteries built by Hoosier (What's a hoosier?) Pioneers in central Indiana. You can map out a route and get a bunch of ‘em in one trip and at the same time learn a little about our past.

INDIANA SPIRIT QUEST #50
”BE PREPARED!”

This quest will take you to a unique place. We have passed by here scores of times in the past--when it was a wooded lot on a county road in the middle of Corn/Soybean country--nothing special to make you notice it--just like hundreds of other sites just like it--The concrete corner fence posts were hidden from view by the brush. Then about two years ago, things began to happen...The trees were cut down, except for a few on the perimeter. The stumps were dug up and removed, revealing a country graveyard, with numerous broken down tombstones. Now it has been totally rehabbed, a sign (Lininger Cemetery) erected, and a few stones set in concrete. This was the Eagle Scout project of DAVID KNECHT. When Lead Dog was an Eagle, projects weren't required--(The dark ages)...It's a darn good idea, eh? The trees that grew up here were at least 50 years old. You can guess what the cemetery looked like by imagining a dense forest with trees as big as those on the perimeter...50-50-50---The cache is Number 50, the woods were 50 years old, the pennent is for the 50th Anniversary of Scouting in 1960.(At least 12 people are buried here, from 1863 to 1889).

The cache container was a peanut jar. Now it is an m&m tube. Please replace it just as you found it, so the squirrels, ferrets, skunks, gators and coons can't get to it. BYOP. Park with care. If you find a fallen U.S. flag, please stick it back in the ground, preferably next to a Vet’s Marker. As always, please be respectful, and cache in, trash out.
