Geocache Description:

The cache is hidden at "Rallarvegen", which starts at "Abisko" and ends at "Rombaksbotn".
Recommended point of start, are "Bjørnfjell railway-station", which can be reached from the E10 by car. The trail continues about 5 km., through historic surroundings and an easy downhill track towards "Katterat railway-station". The cache is hidden close to a viewpoint towards the "Norddalsbrua". It’s a see-through plastic-box with a blue lid, containing a logbook and other objects.

"Norddalsbrua" was intentionally (and quite unnecessary) built according to a requirement from the military authorities in 1902. They demanded that there should be a bridge, which could be destroyed in case of a war-situation. The explanation of this rather peculiar demand is that the tension was quite strong between Norway and Sweden in those days. Norway got its independence from Sweden in 1905.During The Battle of Narvik, an attempt to blow up the bridge, did not become a total success. The bridge is approx. 180 meters long. The bridge was decommissioned in 1988, and had during those 86 years, carried a total of 1 billion tons of iron ore across its steel constructions-parts.
Along this track, you will pass the "Solheimsbrakka", where the German General Eduard Dietl (* 21. July 1890/ U 23. June 1944) had his HQ in the Battle of Narvik, during April-May of 1940.
