Dedicated Monuments Multi-Cache

This cache has been archived.

Ken220: This multi has been up and running for over five years. It has been over a year since anyone has found it so I guess that it's time to put it out to pasture. It seems that fewer and fewer cachers will take the time to do a multi. Thanks to all of you that found it.

Geocache Description:

This multistage cache in located in Chesterfield, SC, founded in 1785. Many monuments exist in an old town and reading the dedications can be very interesting.

This is a four-stage cache. The distance from the first stage to the fourth stage is approximately one mile. One can walk but driving is also possible for each stage. You will need a calculator to assist you with the calculations. Follow the coordinates to locate the first stage. The first stage involves gathering information from two different locations within 50 feet of each other. [For your own edification, be sure to note the dedication on the back of the monument and read the historical marker located just 21 feet from the monument.]

Stage One: On the monument, what was the year of the meeting? (________) How many total steps are there to the second floor of the structure to the east of the monument? (________) Multiply the year of the meeting by 1.8517118 to give you the latitude. Multiply the total number of steps by 174.02873 to give you the longitude of the second stage.

Stage two: Locate the monument. To figure out the latitude for the third stage, multiply the number of names in the largest group by 42.520395. Multiply the total number of names by 50.35 for the third stage longitude.

Stage three: You would be safer parking off of the primary street. Locate the circular monument. Note the date of dedication. Fifteen feet south is another object dedicated to Lib Redfearn. Note the date of dedication on this object. To determine the final coordinates for the cache, multiply the circular monument's date of dedication by 1.7938677 for the latitude. Multiply the second object's date of dedication by 4.1544597 to obtain the longitude.

Stage four: You should now be able to locate the final step of "Dedicated Monuments". At the present time there is not a dedicated monument at stage four but I expect that there will be within the next year or two. The cache is a 2 1/2 quart plastic container which initially contains 2 AA batteries, silly putty, 2 super balls, an LED keychain, a party-glow bracelet, a four-color BIC pen, a bottle of hand sanitizer, a geocaching button, and a "First to Find" geocaching button, as well as a log and pen.
