This is a great cache to do if you're in a hurry, but you will want to stay awhile to enjoy... Coordinates have been updated (04/23/05), but if your GPS acts up, you may need to resort to using the clue.
This cache is located in the general vicinity of Clarendon Gorge, along part of the Appalachian trail. It can be accessed by walking from the designated parking along Route 103.
After driving by this spot for years, we finally decided to wander down the trail. What we found was amazing. There, after only a short distance on a narrow footpath, was a suspension bridge that crosses the Clarendon Gorge. The 100 foot drop and sheer rock walls seem to move you... Or is it the bridge that's moving?
In order to get to the cache, you will need to cross the bridge (of course!). On the other side, you will find a series of trails that meander through the soft footing of pine tree needles (and dense forest overhead that makes getting an accurate reading on your GPS virtually impossible). The peace and calm in this area alone makes it worth the while. Bring a lunch and find a cozy spot that overlooks the gorge.
This cache is rated a 2.5 for terrain because of the unsure footing of the suspension bridge, and the cliffs that you will need to AVOID while searching for the cache. We assure you that rappelling is NOT necessary to locate this find. However, if you are afraid of heights, you may want to reconsider attempting this hunt.
Enjoy the taste of what Vermont has to offer, and take a lesson from us-Stop along your normal path once in awhile to see what mother nature has to offer. But then again, isn't that why geocaching is so much fun?
