Geocache Description:

This is a three-part multi-puzzle cache in a greenbelt area of Davis. The first two parts are virtual caches and the third part is a log-only micro cache. Parking may be found at N38º 34.221, W121º 43.821.

In this episode, Harriet and Clayton Quigg (mother and son stars of many word problems I have written over the years) met to have a chat and take a walk. They rendezvoused at the Welcome sign (N 38º 34.453’, W 121º 43.807’) of a local greenbelt, carefully noted all the numbers and all the rules and proceeded to a nearby bench to chat. Suddenly, Clayton jumped up and hurried off along the path in an easterly direction at 200 ft/min. Five minutes later, Harriet followed walking at 300 ft/min. At the point that she caught Clayton they expected to find a number hanging on the fence. They discovered that it was missing but then found a small rectangular piece of wood hanging, head high, in the nearest tree with the same number written on it. They called this number “A” and made the following calculation:

B = (3A – 12)/1000.

They called the digit that appears most often on the Welcome sign, "C", and made the following calculation:

D = C + 15C/1000.

To find the final cache they subtracted B from the minutes of the rendezvous latitude and subtracted D from the minutes of the rendezvous longitude and off they went to find the cache. They remembered to bring a pencil or pen and they hope you do, too.
