Geocache Description:

October 30th, Sligo's First Event Cache

Aim of the event will be a friendly morning cup of coffee and a travel bug swop if you've got some... - and then, for the hardy souls, to climb Benbulbin, north of Sligo and to hike to the two caches at the top.

As Donnacha and I are planning a week's geocaching in the Northern half of the island, we thought it would be good fun to kick it all off with an event cache.

Here's the plan:

Nice early 9am meeting in Sligo town centre at the "What The?" cache, well placed in the city centre. There's a grocery store (for parking discs and supplies) nearby.

Just over the bridge from the parking and cache co-ordinates, less than 100ft away you'll see a small coffee shop on the corner, the name of which I can never remember. It's got a yellow/beige exterior and it's quite small. There's two window paintings on the outside. If we're not all milling around at the co-ords, we'll be trying to waken up with some coffee.

Event caches are never really that punctual, and there's lots of chatting to be done, so we'll probably leave for Benbulbin around 10.

We'll proceed to the starting point for the cache from here, which is at N54 22.139 W8 27.463 or G 703 468 (OS map 16) The WGS84 are converted from OSI and may not be too exact. Arrival time should be around 10.30am. If you get lost, give me a call, number below, and we can arrange a meeting point.

The hike up shouldn't take too long and once the Skylark cache is found we'll proceed to Soul Man, not too far away.

Having found that it'll be a descent back to the cars, hopefully finished by mid-afternoon. Bring your walking boots and wet gear (fingers crossed for the weather).

There are some excellent caches in the area to visit afterwards, so it should make for a great day out, even if you don't come on the cache hunt and just fancy an informal meeting with other geocachers.

Usual event etiquette applies - please post a note on this page to say you're coming, and bring plenty of travelbugs if you have them.
