Geocache Description:

Between some rocks on Kubu Island, watched over by one of the many "ancient giants" who stand guard on this mystic place. An easy walk on the island, but do good planning for the drive to this "lunar landscape", especially in the rainy season (November-March)!

Kubu Island is an amazing, desolate "island" of large boulders and many huge baobab and African star-chestnut trees. It is on the edges on the Sowa Pan, one of the two main pans of the Makgadigadi Pans in Botswana. In the dry season the surrounding dry pans look like a lunar lanscape. In the rainy season (November-April)the pans can be flooded and required careful planing & driving skills. The cache is hidden between some rocks, facing the expanse of the pan, at the base of one on the many huge baobab trees. It is a flat, circular plastic container with some golf balls, a small Basotho hat, pencil and a note.Enjoy the journey, the view and the solitude!
