The fourth of our series is located in the very small village of Weishample. This village was established in 1855 and named after J. F. Weishampel who was a traveling preacher. The first church was built at a cost of $1000. The first post office was built in 1870 which they then changed the name to it’s current spelling. In the late 1800’s the town consisted of the post office, store, church, blacksmith shop, carriage shop, school-house, and about 6 houses/farms.In the 1980’s, the Weishample Church of God was moved to it’s current location. It was very interesting to watch because it was done with lots of people, cinderblocks, and time. (It was actually rolled down the street about ¼ mile.) The church now rests on third base of the once-was local baseball field. Today, Weishample is still a small farming town but the people travel to nearby towns for groceries, stamps, and other supplies. If you fish, check out the many fishing spots along Deep Creek.Parking is available at the church. Minor bushwacking is necessary the last 100 feet.
