Arlington Downs racetrack was a 1 1/4 mile horse track that had a grandstand of 6,000 seats. It opened on November 1, 1929 at this location. Oil and cattle magnate W. T. Waggoner was the land owner. Racing day drew thousands of people including many celebrities. Since pari-mutuel betting was illegal at the time of the tracks opening, he took a huge gamble.

When 2 fans were arrested in 1931 for openly betting on races, the Texas legislature used this as a test case. In 1933 legalized pari-mutuel beting was passed into law. 650 horses and profits of over $113,000 a day made this track very profitable for W. T. Waggoner. He died a few years later of a stroke in 1934.

In 1937 the Texas derby, held at Arlington Downs, was the tryout for the later Kentucky Derby. Thoroughbred owners from all over the country sent their horses to the track to compete. That same year, the state repealed the pari-mutuel laws and the track was sold to commercial developers. The track was then used for rodeos, square dances, car racing and other events until 1958 when the building was torn down.

The above coordinates take you to the 1st stage of this cache. In order to find the final stage, the only remaining piece of Arlington Downs, you must do the following: Take W.T. Waggoner's son, Guy, and add his age to 44.597. Now you must take his other son, Paul, and subtract his age from 04.191. Now you have the coordinates for the the actual cache. N32 44.--- W097 04.---

Good Luck!
