Geocache Description:

Kingston Stump is a Rubbermaid cache.

The "Kingston Stump" is at the gateway to many sites and activities on or near Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore, Lake Superior State Forest and nearby CFR lands. Hiking, camping, waterfalls, snowmobiling, atv's, blueberries, siteseeing, fishing, hunting, birdwatching (saw a kestrel while placing this cache) and now geocaching can all be enjoyed within this huge area. The Kingston Plains were formed when fire spread thru this area after logging off the massive white pines that once stood here. Legend has it that the lumber from this forest was sent primarily to Chicago to help rebuild that city after their great fire in 1870's.When you explore the plains area, it would be advised to have a compass and a map. Everything looks the same and directional senses are easily confused.Cache starting contents include emergency candle, matches, a couple of fish hooks, a photo note card, and a jeep travel bug.
