Geocache Description:

Located at the top of Boundary Butte near Leavenworth with far reaching views at 3133 ft. This was the site of the Boundary Butte Lookout that was removed in 1967. You are looking for a Rubbermaid 7x7 inch container with assorted geo goodies.

Access the East Leavenworth Rd. at the east side of Leavenworth off Hy 2. Go approx. 200 ft and turn left on Mountain Home Rd. This is a steep, good dirt/gravel road that climbs up and up about 7 miles to the cache. Not maintained in the winter, so access is via walking or snowmobile. After doing 3 caches on this road I decided to go further and see what was on top. The incredible view was outstanding. The road is steep the last 1/4 mile, so if you don't have a SUV or 4x4 you might want to park and walk the last bit. I made it to the top with no problem in my Honda Civic on a dry day, so use that as a gauge. If you drive to the top it's a easy 100 ft. walk to the cache location. There is a communication site at the top and plenty of room to turn around. This area was ravaged by a firestorm in 1994 and you can see the path it took heading east. The curious looking narrow gage railroad on the way up is a private toy that someone has built. Enjoy the views.
