These are my favorite comedies. Would any of these make your Top 10?
This cache is located in the Northern Virginia area, but it is not at the coordinates listed above - those would place you in front of a rather glorious multiplex. TO CLARIFY: the posted coordinates are NOT within walking distance of the actual coordinates (with a tip of the cap to Julius169).
I'm not going to give you the coordinates of the cache. Nanny nanny boo boo.
OK ... on with my list!
1. "A Christmas Story" - I thought about naming one of my bands "The Scott Farkus Affair", but nobody else would go for it [UPDATE 11/15 NetworkCacher tells me there IS already a band by that name ... I've since checked: none of my former bandmates are in that band]. It can't be Christmas for me until this movie has been watched. And if I start watching, I can't stop until the credits roll over the snowy scene at the end.
2. "When Harry Met Sally..." - So very well put together and perfectly cast. Billy Crystal's best movie, thanks in large part to Meg Ryan's brilliant turn as Sally.
3. "Caddyshack" - I love quite a few of the movies that starred members of the SNL cast from the late 70s (see "Blues Brothers"), but this one speaks to the duffer in me. I always picture myself on the 1st tee as the former greenskeeper about to become the Masters Champion. Too bad I usually end up more like Mr. Havercamp ("That's a peach, hon").
4. Either "The Sure Thing" or "Better Off Dead" - I'm a huge John Cusack fan, and these are two of his breakout movies. I quote from these two all the time. I learned how to ski from the latter. "What a coach!"
5. "Beetlejuice" - I've seen this movie about a hundred and sixty-seven times and it keeps getting funnier every time I see it. Another perfect comedic cast assembled for a fast-paced romp about the "almost after"-world. My favorite Michael Keaton flick ... oh, and how about that Geena Davis?
6. "The Princess Bride" - I can pull a quote a day for a year from this one. It certainly has its hokey bits (the Fred Savage / Peter Falk moments are mercifully few), but it's hard not to like the trio of Westley, Inigo and Fezzik.
7. "Raising Arizona" - I took a date to see this movie. I think that pretty much set me up to be a wacko. I don't know that it gets more off-the-wall funny than this one, and Nicolas Cage nails the ex-con almost as well as Holly Hunter nails the ex-cop.
8. "Fast Times at Ridgemont High" / "Sixteen Candles" / "The Breakfast Club" - Three decidedly different high schools for sure, yet three similar stories about the embarrassments of growing up. The coming-of-age format will always work for me. Choose your quote: "Dude, that's my skull" or "Rake ... big rake" or "Demented and sad, but social". How many movies did Molly Ringwald and Anthony Michael Hall co-star in? Just the latter two? Seems like more ...
9. "Airplane!" - This was kind of a groundbreaking movie. No, really! I don't think anyone had seen this kind of a spoof before. The country had been inundated with countless plane disaster movies during the 70s ... here Leslie Nielsen and the gang were fighting back. It doesn't hurt that I've always liked airplanes.
10. "Clue" - Another great ensemble romp, as led by the very hyperactive Tim Curry. When I'm particularly irked at someone, I'll quote a little Madeline Kahn: "I hated her so ... much ... it ... the ... flames ... flames ... on the side of my face ... breathing ...". Am I the only one who does that?
The cache is yet another ubiquitous ammo box. Original cache contents:
- A $10.00 bill (translation: unimaginative FTF prize)
- The "Predator" travel bug (TBG59M ... I'm sending this TB on an all-new mission that I've attached to the TB itself)
- A Marine Corps Marathon spatula
- A spongy, squeezable Capitol Dome from the Office of Employee Assistance at the House of Representatives
- Pro hockey trading cards (potential collectors items now that the NHL is on life support)
- A brand new BMW Z8 (that I would have parked nearby, were I not afraid of muggle curiosity)
- 4-pack of AA batteries
- Muggle sheet
- Disposable camera (you know the drill: take a snap and leave it for others, I'll post the pics when the roll is finished)
- Logbook
- (2) Pencils
- Skateboard pencil sharpener
Please do not post pictures that would give away the location and please refrain from giving out measurements or description of the site!
Feel free to write to me for more clues or coordinate confirmation.
