Geocache Description:

This is a cache provided by Nebraska 4-Hers! We placed the cache near a historical marker that depicts the "Power of Youth". This cache is handicap accessible but does requre a little bit of stomping around in the grass to get to where the cache box is located.

This cache is located near a historical marker, south and west of Grand Island, NE. The marker depicts the experience of a pair of brothers during a frightening incident in 1864.A band of Sioux indians ambushed the boys as they were riding a pony near their home. The boys, riding double, and under heavy fire from bow and arrow, rode as fast as they could toward home. One of the arrows pierced through both of their bodies as they raced away from the indians. The boys rode as far as they could then fell to the ground near their home. Presuming them dead, the indians left. The arrow was later removed from both of the boys and they lived to see better days. This monument is in memory of their courage and luck that day in 1864. 4-H has a slogan entitled "4-H The Power of Youth". Hall County 4-H wanted to commemorate the power of these youth with the placement of this cache, so more geocachers could explore the power of youth! For more information about 4-H and to find more geocaching information from Nebraska 4-Hers, go to 4h.unl.edu.
