Yardie Creek Gorge is located in the Cape Range National Park and really is a must see while visiting the area… bonus points for it containing a cache too
This 15 year old cache has been placed approximately 450m along a walk trail that takes you along the top of this ancient gorge, overlooking Yardie Creek itself. You are looking for a small sistema container which includes a log book, pen and some swappables. Muggle central in the peak season so be cautious!
The view is pretty spectacular, from above the creek you are able to look down over the multi-coloured limestone cliff faces into the deep reflective water and out to the Ningaloo Reef. If you look closely enough there is also a pretty good chance you will spot the rare black-footed wallaby amongst other wildlife.
If you have time to spare, there is a boat cruise that goes up the creek where you will be able to gain a lot of information if it is of interest to you. Alternatively a kayak or SUP up the creek can also be quite rewarding.
From Yardie Creek, the track does continue past the creek and down to Ningaloo Station onto Coral Bay but I wouldn’t recommend attempting the creek unless you have good 4wd. Generally if the creek is dry you won’t have any issues, however… if the creek is flowing then be aware! When flowing the crossing claims cars on a regular basis. Check with the local Exmouth Information Centre for the latest updates on the conditions.
