Geocache Description:

A walk to the Edge of the World.

O'Rourke's Bench is carved out of stone rocks and sheltered by laurels. This spot was Richard "Dad" O'Rourke's favorite resting place, which he called "the edge of the world." On a clear day, one can stand near it and see everything from snow-capped Sierras to a spectacular view down the slopes of Mt. Tamalpais -- beyond infinity.

You can find O'Rourke's Bench by starting from the trail across from the Rock Springs parking lot -- at a "No Dogs" sign. Follow the trail past serpentine rocks, staying on the ridge top. It is a fairly easy walk, about .4 of a mile, and the route that most people take to the

You can also park near one of the hang gliding knolls (around 37° 54.570N 122° 37.198W) and walk a shorter distance over a grassland trail.

"Give me these hills & the friends I Love
I ask no other Heaven."
To our Dad O'Rourke
In joyous celebration of his 76th birthday
Feb. 25th 1927
From the friends to whom he showed
This heaven.

This cache is placed in accordance with the State Park geocaching guidelines. It can be found above the left side of the bench as you read the plaque. It is a small micro, not suitable for trading items. Bring a pen to record your visit in the log. The hint is a spoiler.

Barry Spitz's book Tamalpais Trails is an invaluable guide to this trail, as well as others on the Mountain.

Even though the location gets a fair amount of human traffic, snakes have been reported in this area. You do not have to reach far into the rocks or bays to find the cache, but as always, be careful when reaching anywhere.
