in our disclaimer.
In September 1854, Frederick Padden and his family founded the town of Fredericksburg, Iowa. This cache celebrates the beginning of our town's 150-year history.
Park in Robert Mattke Park on the west side of town, along Highway 18, then head southwest on the Plum Creek Recreational Trail. The cache is a camo-painted ammo box.
After locating it, please take a few minutes to visit the nearby old “West Cemetery”, where residents regularly stop to read the gravestones. In the center you'll find Frederick Padden's large, flat, gray stone. Both sides recount the remarkable life of our town's founder.
Note: if there's been a lot of recent rain (3+ inches), Plum Creek may be flooded and you may not be able to reach the cache from Mattke Park. In that case, locate “West Cemetery” and approach the cache from there. We hope you'll enjoy visiting Fredericksburg!
