Geocache Description:

A short walk through the beautiful grounds of Terhune Memorial Park - Sunnybank in Wayne. Be sure to bring your dog, he/she will love it. Named for TBB's dog, a Whippet named Oliver.

This 9+ acre park has a very interesting history, read about it at the link provided under 'users web page' above.

Immediately prior to becoming the park it is today, the site was the homestead of Albert Payson Terhune and his wife Anice Stockton Terhune. They were both dog lovers and Albert was an author who wrote many works about Collies in the 1920's and 30's. Many of the family Collies are buried on the grounds. Some say you will see a noticable peacefullness in your dog here as he/she runs and plays with the spirits of the Terhune collies.

This land also has Revolutionary War ties. The Sunnybank meadow was the site of the Van Cortlandt Regiment encampment during the winter of 1777-78. Many Revolutionary War relics have been found on and around this site.

The cache is an ammo box painted black and stocked with the usual items. This certainly can be done as a cache-n-grab or a lunchtime cache but you would be doing yourself a disservice not to spend a little time exploring and enjoying the grounds.

"Oliver's army is here to stay
Oliver's army are on their way"
