This cache is intended to show you some interesting local historical structures, to test your skills on the use of your GPS unit, and to take you to a location you might otherwise not visit. The cache is a combination of a three part virtual cache plus a physical micro-cache. All virtual parts are optional.
The cache location is on public land open for various public activities. While the location is easily accessible by well-traveled local roads, it may take a little bit of work to actually find the only route to the cache.
All three parts of the virtual cache are done from the same location, which is also the location of the physical cache. Please bring your own pen to sign the logbook. Please return the micro-cache container to the same exact location as where you found it. Some stealth may be required as this is a popular area. No bushwhacking is required. Ample free parking is available. No long walks either. Enjoy seeing the other interesting activities and views from this cache location!
Proceed to the initial co-ordinates above to start Part 1 of the three-part virtual cache and to find the physical cache. Binoculars are helpful for Part 2, but not required. Binoculars are required for the optional Part 3. A telescope works well too.
Virtual Part 1:
To see the two cache structures, look from the initial cache co-ordinates above towards a bearing of 215 degrees. The structures are .16 miles away. You can get to within 270 to 300 feet of the structures on public land. The structures are on private property so please honor the “no trespassing” signs.
This is a good opportunity to test your skills on the use of your GPS unit by using bearings and distances to find the target when co-ordinates are not given.
Virtual Part 2:
Set your GPS to the following co-ordinates:
N44 DEG. 33.516 MIN.
W87 DEG. 59.653 MIN.
From the location of the initial cache co-ordinates, look towards the new co-ordinates. You should see a small island. This is the original location of the two cache structures.
Virtual Part 3: (Optional)
Binoculars are required for Part 3. While standing at the initial cache co-ordinates, reset your GPS to the following co-ordinates:
N44 DEG. 35.782 MIN.
W87 DEG. 59.048 MIN.
Look for a manmade structure on this long wooded peninsula. This structure is approximately 2.7 miles beyond the island you located in Part 2. This one can be tough to see even with binoculars. A clear day with good visibility is required. The structure is almost as tall as the majority of the trees on the peninsula. It is located centered between the white channel marker on the left and the green channel marker on the right. Enjoy the challenge!
