A Boccaccio's Tale - Una Novella del Boccaccio
(Giovanni Boccaccio 1313-1375).
You can reach the site walking for 2 km from the Florence center, or taking the bus n. 25, north direction. You will pass above the "Ponte Rosso" (Red Bridge) on the Mugnone River, about the point in which a well-known Tale of the Boccaccio's Decameron has its scene: Bruno and Buffalmacco tease their friend Calandrino sending him to seek the "Elitropia - the Magic Stone of Invisibility", in the Mugnone (Decameron - VIII/3). The cache is hidden in the "Orti del Parnaso" (Gardens of the Parnassus) a small quiet public park in Via Trento n. 3. Access 8:30 - 18:00 in winter, 8:30 - 20:00 in summer. Attractive view onto Florence; also the next park "Giardino dell'Orticoltura" is worth a visit, access from Via Bolognese n.15/17. Have fun!
Il luogo è accessibile con una passeggiata di 2 km dal centro di Firenze, oppure con il bus n.25, in direzione nord. Oltrepasserete il "Ponte Rosso" sul Mugnone più o meno nel punto in cui è ambientata la famosa novella del Decamerone del Boccaccio in cui Bruno e Buffalmacco si fanno beffe di Calandrino mandandolo a cercare l'Elitropia, la pietra dell'invisibilità, nel Mugnone (Decameron - VIII/3). La cache è nescosta negli "Orti del Parnaso" un piccolo tranquillo parco pubblico in Via Trento n.3. Accesso 8:30 - 18:00 in inverno, 8:30 - 20:00 in estate. Bella vista su Firenze; anche l'adiacente parco "Giardino dell'Orticoltura" merita una visita, accesso da Via Bolognese n.15/17. Buon Divertimento!
Added Note - Nota Aggiunta Since 2006 this garden is called also “Garden of the Righteous” like the one in Jerusalem near Yad Vashem, a tree has been planted to remember all non-Jews who helped Italian and non Italian Jews to escape from the Fascists and the Nazists. And this tree is dedicate to Gino Bartali, who, pretending to run for training, kept in the tube of his bicycle the documents for helping the Jews. Not far from here, at the top of Via Trieste, there is “Villa Triste” (Sad Villa), the headquarter of Gestapo in Florence where many persons were torturated and killed. Now, under the leaves of this tree, the cries from Villa Triste seem be more far.
Dal 2006 questo giardino è chiamato anche “Giardino dei Giusti” come quello a Gerusalemme vicino a Yad Vashem, un albero è stato piantato per ricordare tutti i non-ebrei che aiutarono Ebrei taliani e non, a sfuggire ai fascisti e ai nazisti. E quest’albero è dedicato a Gino Bartali che, fingendo di allenarsi, portava documenti nella canna della bicicletta per aiutare gli ebrei. Non lontano da qui, in cima a Via Trieste, c’è Villa Triste, il quartier generale della Gestapo a Firenze dove molte persone furono torturate e uccise. Ora, sotto le foglie di quest’albero, le urla di Villa Triste sembrano più lontane.
