Kett's Rebellion! Traditional Cache
Wymondham Wanderers: Unfortunatley this cache was completely trashed. I could not even find the log book to keep as a momento! Will hopefully plant a new multi cache in Wymondham area soon.

The cache is an ammo box hidden south of the Abbey and the river Tiffey in an area renowned for dog walking and feeding the ducks. There is good access for buggies from both ends and wheelchair access from the Damgate Streetend. It can be approached from either the town centre via Damgate Street or Church Street, or alternatively from Town Green via Vicar Street. It contains the usual things (and was rather full when first placed!) and a log book.
The cache is named in honour of the rebellion in 1549 led by Robert Kett and his brother William. The common people were unhappy with the fact that the local gentry had enclosed common land for their own personal use and left them with nowhere to graze their livestock.Robert Kett was a wealthy man, he owned three manors in the area, but he understood their plight and agreed to help them. He led them to Norwich and petitioned the government in London. Unfortunately they did not agree with him and sent in the King's troops. Many of the rebels were killed in a battle on Mousehold Heath in Norwich and Robert and William Kett were captured and late hanged. Robert at Norwich Castle and William from the West Tower of Wymondham Abbey on December 7th 1549.These days they are no longer seen as violent trouble makes but heroes for the common man. An ancestor is now attempting to get a Royal pardon for the two brothers over 450 years after their deaths. More information is available from www.users.waitrose.com/~robertkett
