Lots of parking at n34 40.400 w86 31.820 It is an easy hike to within 32 1/2 feet of the cache. Rock climbing is not necessary or advised at the end game.
From the parking area the cache is an easy hike up a nice new trail on Landtrust property (The "Fanning" Trail). At the end game there are at least 2 EASY routes up to the cache level. Take your time and find one of them.
The cache WAS an ammo box, which WAS in plain view (from the right angle). The ammo can was recently vandalized, with the contents smashed and the box stolen. Since the location has been compromised, the cache is now a micro in the same location, tucked slightly out of sight. No extreme measures are required to pick up the cache, just bend over and pick it up! There’s a $2 “First To Find” prize (so you can honestly say you don’t do this for the money). Enjoy the quest. You will see lots of American Smoke Trees (Crotinus Obovatus), gnarly old growth hardwoods, the occasional sprig of poison oak and ivy, and outcroppings of weathered limestone. The undergrowth is light and deer are frequently seen, particularly in the winter months. When you get to the cache area stop and let the GPS settle out. You CAN get a good reading here if you are patient. Enjoy the hike and leave enough time to get out before dark.
