Stone Low is a rocky knoll overlooking the delightful Withens Brook that is hidden away in moorland near to the head of Longdendale. Despite a relatively short walk from the road, there is a tremendous feeling of isolation about this vantage point
Although there has been nothing recorded here, Stone Low is typical in aspect and altitude to a number of nearby Stone Age sites in the Dark Peak of Derbyshire. These locations are marked by finds of small scatters of flint that indicate a surprising intensity of occupation in this part of the Peak District National Park. There is parking for several cars by the roadside near to Hayden Bridge at N 530 30.266’ W 0010 51.118’. Take the stile by the gate and follow your GPSr across Access Land.
