This is another cache in the beautiful under used High Mountain Wilderness Preserve.. This cache is placed at summit of Beech Mountain. Although there is no trail that goes directly to the summit, it is quite accessible if you go the right way. Follow the yellow trail from Reservoir drive to its highest point. At that point bushwhack north. It is not a jungle here and not steep.
There are two entrances to the yellow trail on Reservoir Drive in Franklin Lakes. Take the one right after the circle by the gate, not the one on the circle. There is a map of the park at this link.
I would avoid the temptation to bushwhack straight there from Reservoir Drive, The cache is an ammo box full of goodies. From the cache you can catch a glimpse Franklin Lake and from 50 ft west you can see Point View Reservoir. Not sure why there is no trail here but it is worth the bushwhack. I now have a total of 9 caches in this park and an additional one nearby, Buttermilk Falls. Get them all for a good tour of High Mountain Wilderness Preserve. Please hide the cache as you found it and enjoy.
