Geocache Description:

The standard ammobox

This cache has been hidden on the rail road trail (Rails To Trails) in Lebanon, NH. The trail head is at N 43 38.672 and W072 14.983. It is only a short walk from the Lebanon Green, where you can find the answers to solve the coordinates of the actual cache. The coordinates at the top of the page are the coordinates of the Lebanon Green (named Colburn Park).

The cache coordinates are
Formula N 43 38.X where X = B + 11*D + date2 - date1 + date5 - date4 + 52
and W 072 14 Y where Y = 5*A - B + C + date1 - date3 - 5
X and Y both have three digits.

  • date1 = The year in which the monument 'To all the men and women in Lebanon who served their country in times of need, to keep alight the fires of freedom' was dedicated by veterans and citizens of Lebanon;
  • date2 = The year in which the monument 'Dedicated to the deceased members of the Lebanon Fire Department' was erected by the Lebanon Fireman's Association;
  • date3 = The year during which the town voted to name the common 'Colburn Park';
  • date4 = When the library was established;
  • date5 = The year during which Roland L Thibodeau passed away;
  • A = The number of Lebanon Soldiers in the American Revolution;
  • B = How many years the town of Lebanon debated about where to build a new meetinghouse;
  • C = The number of names on the plaque which mentions Henry Morgenthau Jr, as Secretary of the Treasury, and which has the year 1937 on it.
  • D = The number of canon balls in the stack of cannon balls in front of the Soldiers Memorial Building. For this number, assume that this stack would be real cannon balls, and nothing else in it. So it's not the number of cannon balls visible on the outside of the stack, but the 'real' number of cannon balls instead.

All the answers can be found at Colburn Park or at the buildings around the green. After calculating, you can walk to the rail trail trailhead and find the cache.

The cache is the standard ammo box with a bunch of goodies. Yet another Terry Pratchett book as a First To Find prize, this time I decided on his first Discworld book 'The Color of Magic'. Other items in the cache include a first aid kit, bracelets, glow stick, colored pencils, and a gecko stamp. The cache also includes BunBun II, my 8yo's second travel bug.
