Geocache Description:

Gathering of geocachers to talk about geocaching safety, followed by a CITO along the trails leading up to the Devil's Marbleyard.

Plan on starting the event at 11am to give folks further away time to meander their way through the backroads to the trailhead (posted coordinates) -- limited parking at trailhead holds no more than 7 vehicles.

Event details a bit sketchy at this point, but the event will be held regardless of weather.

This is meant as a simple get together, talk about some geocaching safety topics applicable to Virginia and the great outdoors in general, followed by a CITO of the trails leading up to the Marbleyard.

The safety discussion will be followed by the CITO portion, which will include a short hike, round trip of about 2.8 miles, along the trails to/from Devils Marbleyard.

The posted coordinates are at the Belfast Trailhead for the marbleyard.
Forest Service Ranger (Tiffany) has given us the freedom to CITO the area keeping in mind it is a designated wilderness area, so we have to be careful what we do and don't do.

Details / coordinates: Trash drop off is at N37 34.906 W079 30.446
Belfast Parking area is at N37 34.275 W 079 29.502
Access from SR130 is via Arnold's Valley Road @ N37 37.358 W079 29.696, then to Hopper Creek Rd intersection @ N37 34.918 W079 30.476, past trash dumpsters @ N37 34.906 W079 30.446 on County Rd 781 (Petites Gap Rd) to posted coordinates.

At 552 Petites Gap Rd (County Rd 781), we have been granted a one-day only parking easement by the property owner with the following restrictions:
  • Do not block driveway (on fear of death by wife of homeowner)
  • Do not park IN driveway (same reason)
  • Do not park behind garage (homeowner doesn't want mud bog)
  • Thank them if you see them
Hunting Regulations link that may prove helpful to some.

If you would like more information, please send huggy_d1 an email and we'll post it to the cache page.

Updated the 'user web page' to link to a GPX file with the above waypoints and a 'route' through those points to arrive at the trailhead.
Hope to see you there!
