Welcome to the
Little Pinnacle Overlook! This location will provide you with a
fantastic view of the Big Pinnacle (better known as Pilot
Mountain), the entire Sauratown Mountain Range (which is the only
Mountain Range in the world that begins and ends within a counties
borders - Stokes County), as well as the surrounding Piedmont area.
Be sure to bring a camera! Parking is available in the Summit Area
parking lot at the top of the mountain located at N 36° 20.407 W
80° 28.834 The overlook is a short walk from the parking area.
There are picnic tables as well as restrooms located in the summit
area, so bring a picnic and enjoy the scenery!
You can
visit the Pilot
Mountain State Park website for park hours as well as a
downloadable park map.
Once at the
overlook you will need to answer some questions in order to locate
the final cache, although the real cache here is the
VIEW. This will be
easy!
Coordinates for the final are:
N 36°
#0.?
$5
W 80°
#$.4
#6
# = number of bolts holding each end of a single wooden
rail.
? = number or wooden rails
between 2 stone columns.
$ = number of stone columns located
around the overlook.
Once you plug in the numbers it will be a short drive and a
short walk to the final. I would recommend parking about 400 feet
from the final. (You can drive closer, but the walk in will be a
little more difficult!)
CAUTION:
The cache is hidden in the Woods, so Be Prepared to encounter all
the things that you would expect to find in the woods. Poison ivy,
snakes, ticks, spiders, spider webs, chiggers, bees, briars,
squirrels, birds, deer, lions and tigers and bears oh my, and some
beautiful scenery. I would recommend dressing accordingly depending
on the time of year when you visit the cache.
Thanks for visiting my tenth cache!
