This simple two-stage multicache is located in Carkeek Park. The closest parking to the cache can be found at the Eddie McAbee entrance on NW 100th Place and 6th Avenue NW at N 47 42.188, W 122 21.792, although the cache is accessible from any of Carkeek's parking areas. Carkeek Park is home to over six miles of maintained trails, beach access, a children's playground, and several currently active geocaches.
Hike down Piper's Creek Trail until you come upon the Piper Homestead Orchard at the posted coordinates. There is a bench for you to sit after you take the following notes from the informational sign:
In what year was A.W. Piper's bakery destroyed by fire? (ABCD)
When did the Carkeek Family donate this land to the City of Seattle? (EFGH)
This land remained fallow until what year? (IJKL)
How many of the original orchard trees survived? (MN)
To calculate the final cache location, complete the following arithmetic problems:
O = L + M
P = K - C
The final cache is located at the nearby N 47 42.OPM, W 122 22.PPH.
Aren't those trees that are growing horizontally and then vertically in the orchard intriguing? I recommend further and immediate investigation of these trees during your hunt for the cache. No bushwacking is necessary, although you will need to walk among the orchard trees to locate the cache.
The cache is a small Lock-n-Lock container with a few small items for trading. The container is covered by a piece of bark to obscure it from casual orchard wanderers; please replace the bark after you return the cache. Since you will be in full view of all trail users when you discover the cache, please exercise the customary caution while retrieving and replacing the cache container.
